Diversity and Leadership Workshop
" Real leaders are ordinary individuals with extraordinary determination."
" Diversity... The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are..."
Embracing diversity and showing leadership are the two attributes for building a great team. Leadership is a function of knowing yourself, having a well-communicated vision, building trust among others, and executing to realize your own potential. Diversity is about empowering people and promoting the human spirit. More specifically, it is about understanding, valuing, and appreciating the individual differences. Diversity and leadership are what make an organization effective and successful. We, Drexel TSA, appreciate the value of leadership and diversity and want to promote their essence with a workshop given by the subject-matter expert.
Drexel Turkish Student Associations presents the Diversity and Leadership Workshop.

Lecture by Bruce Fein
Upenn and Drexel Turkish Student Associations present: Lecture by Bruce Fein
* Turkey, PKK and Northern Iraq: A Fragile Triangle
* The Ill-conceived Armenian Genocide Resolution
Sponsored by Turkish Coalition of America
Bruce Fein is a resident scholar at the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA).
An honors graduate from Harvard Law School, Mr. Fein brings to his Turkish and
Turkish-American scholarship a nationally acclaimed expertise in constitutional and
international law. Over the past decade, Mr. Fein has written and spoken extensively on
Turkish-American relations; the PKK; the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Annan
Plan; the Armenian genocide narrative and the politics of congressional Armenian resolutions;
Turkish constitutional reform; Turkey's blossoming democracy; and, Turkey's anxieties over
Northern Iraq, including Kirkuk.
Program:
18:00 - 18:45: Turkey, PKK and Northern Iraq: A Fragile Triangle
18:45 - 19:00: Coffee break
19:00 - 19:45: The Ill-conceived Armenian Genocide Resolution
Abstracts:
PKK Issue:The Marxist-Leninist terrorist PKK is regularly and falsely represented in the media and by their advocates as popular freedom fighters seeking greater autonomy and civil rights for Turkey's Kurds. That image turns truth on its head. The PKK enjoys support from a tiny fraction of Kurds. Six out of seven vote for mainstream Turkish political parties. A majority of the PKK's victims are Kurds. The PKK raises money not through voluntary donations, but by drug trafficking, human smuggling, and sister illegalities. The PKK manifesto demands a separate Kurdish nation, not autonomy within Turkey. Turkey's democratic dispensation has been responsive to Kurdish political concerns. Kurds are equal under the law, and are represented in proportion to their numbers in Parliament, business, education, the professions, and the arts. The Kurdish language is permissible in broadcasting; and, private instruction in Kurdish is permitted, although private schools have closed for lack of demand. The sole demerit in Turkey's political dispensation that the PKK trumpets to justify its responsibility for the killings of more than 35,000 Turks and Kurds is the absence of public school instruction in Kurdish as well as Turkish. The tacit support the Kurdish Regional Government in northern Iraq gives to the PKK is inexcusable.
The Ill-conceived Armenian Genocide Resolution: The Armenian Genocide claim is as false as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. The Genocide Convention of 1948 establishes the definition of the crime of genocide: government sponsored killings based on religion, nationality, race ,or ethnicity with the specific intent of exterminating a group, as such. The Armenians died during World War I from three discrete causes. First, probably the predominate number died from starvation, disease, or epidemics that equally afflicted Ottoman Muslims during a mass relocation and resettlement necessitated by an Armenian revolt and widespread espionage and sabotage against the Ottoman government; and, by fleeing with Russian armies retreating from Eastern Anatolia afte Russia withdrew from the war. Second, approximately 150,000 Armenians fought on behalf of the enemy and many died while engaged in hostilities. Third, an indeterminate number died from unauthorized war crimes perpetrated by Kurdish irregulars, deserters from the Turkish armed forces, and ill-trained or recruited gendarmes. These crimes were condemned by the Ottoman government, and approximately 1,400 prosecutions ensued. There is virtually no evidence that a single Armenian was killed because of a genocidal intent harbored or endorsed by the Ottoman government.
